Welcome to NgREN Persistent Identifiers (PID) Service
NgREN’s Persistent Identifier (PID) service ensures that the digital outputs of Nigeria’s universities, research institutions, and cultural organizations remain findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR). Through NgREN Persistent Identifiers (ARKs) — Trustworthy Links for Nigerian Research & Education — we provide permanent, citable identifiers for the nation’s research and education community. With ARKs, your scholarly and cultural outputs gain stable links that last for decades, ensuring long-term visibility and impact.
Section: Why persistent identifiers?
- Reliability: If URLs change, the ARK keeps resolving to the right place.
- Credit & impact: PIDs make your work findable and citable.
- Interoperability: Connects people (ORCID), organizations (ROR), and outputs across systems.
- National visibility: Showcases scholarship from Nigerian institutions.
Section: How NgREN ARKs work
- Mint — An ARK is created in NgREN’s backend (arklet) and assigned to a resource.
- Bind — The ARK is linked to descriptive metadata and a target URL.
- Resolve — Users follow the ARK link; NgREN’s resolver sends them to the current location.
Section: Who uses NgREN PIDs?
- University libraries and research offices
- Institutional repositories (e.g., DSpace)
